FRIENDS OF
SURF SPORTS PARK

Surf’s Mission is to Create the "Best of the Best” Experiences and Opportunities for Kids

For over 44 years Surf has been focused on this mission and their track record of success speaks for itself. Surf has won 11 National Championships, endless State titles and they’ve sent more kids to college via scholarship than any other youth organization in America. Their facility and events are responsible for more college athletic scholarships than any other in the nation.

Their economic impact on the local region is significant. Their events generate $120 million of dollars of economic impact per year and create thousands of jobs for the San Diego region. Further, their organization has donated over $7m to various charities, mainly focused on youth sports and the overall health of kids.

Despite their positive impact, not everyone loves what they do. A small but vocal and unreasonable group of neighbors has been harassing the Surf team and trying to derail their mission since day one. They are committed to stopping Surf, negatively impacting the lives of our children and threatening the positive impact they make our community. Some of their neighbors supported a lawsuit filed against the City of San Diego and Surf within the first month of their lease. They’ve coerced fellow neighbors to support their end goal, inundated the city with frivolous complaints, harassed Surf staff and customers, lied about Surf finances, completely misled the local equestrian community, and have threatened Surf’s ability to execute their mission. Having lost every single legal and political action to date, “Coalition to Preserve the Polo Fields Neighborhood” has resorted to publishing misinformation about the Surf organization, and the facility at the heart of it, and we've had enough of the lies.

We Are The Friends of Surf Sports Park

We represent a wide variety of people: including Parents, Neighbors, Community Members, Local Business Owners, and most importantly the Alumni, past and present. We’re environmentalists, we’re taxpayers, we’re concerned citizens, and we’re frustrated with the way this organization has been inaccurately portrayed by self-centered, elitist neighbors, and fringe groups of professional naysayers like the FSDRV. Surf’s supporters are diverse and highly motivated to give back to an organization that has given so much to us, our families, our businesses, and the community of San Diego. Recent events have driven this platform into reality, and with the cooperation of Surf, we now have a voice and proper vehicle to deliver our message.

The goal of The Friends of Surf Sports Park is simple, to ensure the FACTS are clear for anyone who actually wants to know the truth. We encourage a reasonable and productive dialogue about Surf’s impacts on the local community, both positive and negative. We want to hear from neighbors and community leaders, who understand the value of an organization like Surf, but also have honest questions and concerns that are deserving of good, solid answers. Let us find the time and the common ground to have that conversation.
